111, progressive/Carnatic rock band Motherjane’s newest EP, launched on Might 21, has been a very long time coming. Had it not been for the pandemic, it might have been launched in 2020. “I’ve learnt a life lesson by means of this album, to take the trail of least resistance,” says drummer/percussionist John Thomas. “No level in pushing it, when the time is true it is going to occur. And I’m glad it occurred now fairly than earlier.” Work on the album had been on since 2013-14, with momentum selecting up in 2018-19.

That is Motherjane’s third studio launch, the final was Maktub in 2008. The hole of 14 years between the 2 has been punctuated by singles, together with ‘Tribes of Babel’, ‘No Contest’, ‘Clayplay’ and ‘Namaste’. 111 has three new songs and ‘Clayplay’. “The interval from 2011-18 was considered one of turbulence for the band, with members leaving and new folks coming in. By 2018 issues had settled down and we had been set. We wanted a secure manufacturing workforce, the mixtures weren’t working,” John explains the explanation for the hole between their two albums. If, previously, including new members to the line-up was hurried earlier than a gig, this time they determined to take it gradual. “Greater than expertise, for a band to have the ability to play collectively, chemistry is essential.”

The songs within the album, produced by Rex Vijayan, have that distinct Motherjane sound with its Carnatic influences. “The songs have been fastidiously designed, with delicate sounds fairly than being in your face. I might say it’s a fashionable tackle the signature Mothejane sound. In actual fact, that’s the suggestions that we now have been getting.”
